Positive:
The Great Debater stars Denzel Washington who plays as Mel Tolson also the director. In the movie, Mel creates a great debate team who historically includes the black Wiley college who Mel pushes this team to levels of excel and to challenge the Powerhouse Harvard during 1935. Despite of Mel’s public successes, he has some personal demons causing him to clash. He clashes personality with Forest Whitaker, one of Tolson’s students who resent Mel’s loyalty to coach. This is one of the Christian Movies that many Christians prefer because there is no nudity, and only brief unacceptable scenes of sexuality and it is based on actual events.

Negative:
The movie contains some thematic violence and some disturbing images, as well as brief sexuality and language. There is a bar scene where Henry is flirting with a woman inappropriately dressed in tight fitting closes and showing cleavage, and she dances suggestively. James fantasizes of a woman dancing. There are kissing and sex scenes in bed, and Henry kisses another woman in front of Sam whom he is seeing. There is lynching in the movie, burning, and white lynching occurs of a black man. There is a scene of violence that occurs in a bar. There are unacceptable violent and sexual scenes, which makes this one of the movies that would offend true Christians. There is some racism slangs, and language also in the movie.

Comments:
This could have been a good movie had the producers left out the unneeded sexual behaviors, and some of the violence. The upside is there is no nudity in the scenes, which makes it worth giving some attention to. I don’t like the notion of the producers dragging racism on and on, it is time to put an end to hate.
